J.O.B. Orchestra - Hare Krishna Disco Funk


The J.O.B. Orchestra recorded one album and two singles and EPs in 1978. The title is formed from the initials of the name of its producer, Jorge Omar Barreiro.

The records were sold by Hare Krishna devotees in North America and Europe to raise the funds for the temples.

A mystery tape recording from Ramai Swami's band's concert

I came across this gem today when I was looking for Ramai Swami's lectures online. Ramai Swami is an Australian sannyasi (renunciate travelling monk) and a disciple of Srila Prabhupada. When I was first becaming interested in the Hare Krishna philosophy, I was in high school and one of my new acquaintances who introduced me to it, gave me three musical tapes to listen to. Two of them were by Australian devotees, Ramai Swami and Krishna Premi devi dasi, and the other was by an Italian devotee, Krishna Prema das. All three of them left a deep impression on me and I listened to them whenever I came home from school. Actually, this account is not completely correct. One of the tapes she gave me initially was by Harikesha Swami, but I did not like it and asked for a different tape, so she replaced it with Krishna Prema's album Krishna Vision. Hi or Haribol (as we, Hare Krishna devotees, like to greet each other)! My Hare Krishna name is Stoka Krishna das. I received this name when I was initiated into the Gaudiya Vaishnava spiritual tradition by my spiritual master in 1992. I joined the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in 1990 in the Soviet Union, where this movement was just coming out of hiding. During my years in the movement I listened to a lot of Vaishnava (Hare Krishna) music performed and recorded by various devotees around the world prior to my joining. I was very fond of many of those albums, which I had on tape. Unfortunately, with the passage of years, most of those tapes were either lost or perished. I miss them more and more as time goes by, and that is why I am creating this blog. It is mostly for myself and my friends who also like this kind of music.
